Hello Dear Friends,
I know this isn’t food related content, but I wanted to share this heartwarming story with you during these really dark times. These two days uplifted me tremendously, and taught me that even when I lose all hope, children remind us to stay strong for them. I hope this blog uplifts you as well!
Recently, the organization called Heal Palestine achieved the largest single medical evacuation of injured Palestinian children from Gaza. Eleven children, along with their families, safely reached U.S. soil for life‑saving treatment. This is a miraculous feat considering the borders around Gaza are hermetically sealed to prevent the flow of food, baby formula, medicine, and people.
These children, among 62 total the organization has helped evacuate, have escaped unspeakable harm—bombings, amputations, severe burns, malnutrition, and relentless trauma at the hands of the IDF.
From Boston to Columbus, Seattle, Houston, and the San Francisco Bay Area, local communities greeted each child with open arms—holding balloons, flags and flowers–offering not just medical treatment, but emotional refuge.
Each child carries a story—one of loss and hardship, but also of unbreakable spirit. Some lost limbs in airstrikes and now face the daunting task of learning to walk again with prosthetics. Others survived bombings that robbed them of family, childhood, and a sense of safety, like 9 year old Anas, who is the sole survivor of his family when Israel bombed his shelter. One teenager, Marah, is among thousands who have survived but bear the physical and emotional scars of indiscriminate bombing.

Despite bureaucratic hurdles, security checks, and logistical nightmares—some evacuations took a year of relentless advocacy—HEAL persevered, fueled by moral conviction and deep empathy. HEAL Palestine’s approach is profoundly human and deeply holistic. After receiving care in the U.S., children and their families were relocated to Egypt, where they continue recovery in housing, schooling, therapy, and community support—not returned to the danger they narrowly escaped.
They then receive mental health resources, educational support, and the chance to reclaim childhood milestones—like learning to walk, swim, or even play piano. Behind the scenes, doctors, volunteers, translators, donors, and host families dedicate love and energy so that one success story can ripple hope.
As one team member said poignantly, “There’s no way we could send a child back into a genocide… we want to give them back a little semblance of their childhood and health again” These children are not just patients—they are symbols of what can be when compassion meets action.
- To donors, your contributions extend far beyond medicine—they invest in childhood and dignity amid despair.
- To volunteers, your work gives voice to the voiceless and a future to the most vulnerable.
- To everyone, let this story be a reminder: when systems fail, humanity can still prevail. The world must do better—for these children, and for all futures at stake. To learn more go to: HEAL
